The Black College Quarterback, which at one time was an endangered species, is now thriving across many big time national programs. Many teams that are in the hunt to play for the national title this year will be led on the field by a black quarterback. We all know that talent knows no color, but we also know the struggles that those pioneers of years gone by such as Doug Williams endured to open doors for many players of today. YoungBrothas.com takes a look during our Back 2 Campus Week at the Top 5 best brothas to ever suit up under the gun on the college field.

EDIT – We have received some emails for write-in votes for everyone from Vince Young and Doug Williams to Tee Martin and Akili Smith(really?). We will let you discuss and debate in the comments your reason for your choice.

5. Kordell Stewart – University of Colorado
My best memory of Kordell came from one play in one the greatest finishes in college football history. His 64 yard hail mary pass TD to beat Michigan.

4. Charlie Ward – Florida State University
The two sport star who made a name for himself as a serviceable point guard in the NBA first gained national exposure as the quarterback of the national champion Seminoles in the early 90′s.

3. Michael Vick – Virginia Tech
The Michael Vick Experiment began over a decade ago in Blacksburg, VA. The nation was introduced to one of the most dynamic athletes in college football history, and Vick all but single-handedly put the Hokies on his back and led them to the national title game.

2. Steve McNair – Alcorn State
The late Steve McNair was perhaps the best passing black quarterback of all time, and lit up opponents in college at will. Add to that his blazing speed, and “Air McNair” became a household name at Alcorn State, long before he was a Titan.

1. Tommie Frazier – Nebraska
The “Black Tim Tebow” as one of my friends called him, Tommie Frazier was as good a system QB as there was in the 90′s. Frazier led the Cornhuskers to back to back national titles in 1994 and 95, and ESPN had crowned the ’95 team the greatest college team of all time in a 2006 special.
