Trying to keep a balance between your life before your girl came into the picture, and now incorporating her into your day-to-day can be challenging. While some guys would say things such as limited free time or more expensive trips to the mall were the biggest adjustments once they entered a relationship, the most impactful one is usually the most overlooked. How well, or not well, your girl gets along with your boys can be critical in the health of both relationships.
Your girl knows that you had a life before her, and if you were a social butterfly, odds are you spent time out hanging with the fellas. It might have been every once in a while at the bar, or every Friday night over one of each other’s house before hitting the club. Either way, now that you are committed, things will change.
I personally have seen both friends and girlfriends cause harm due to not liking the other. In one case, the friends felt their boy had completely “sold out” and dissed them in favor of his new girl. No more going out, no more calls, no nothing. Of course, about 5 months later, the relationship had fizzled out, and he went trying to go back to his boys. They still had hard feelings over being put on the shelf, and dissed him too.
In another situation, I have seen a girlfriend become insecure due to the fact she did not trust her man’s friends. Her man was the only one in the group that was in a committed relationship, and his boys all were truly single and happy about being so. She felt that their intentions when going out were not the same, and they were gonna influence her man to do wrong. It got to the point that she didn’t like them, and they didn’t like her. The man, put in the middle, did not make a choice, and eventually his relationship dissolved.
What would you do given that choice? If put in the middle between your long time friends or your girlfriend?
