Ms. Right Now Defined

If you have been following YoungBrothas.com, you have seen us refer to love interests you have as “Ms. Right” and “Ms. Right Now”. I wanted to take this post to give some depth to how you know who Ms. Right Now is in your life.

Ms. Right Now usually is in your life in one of these 4 forms:

1. The Rebound – You may be attempting to get over your last love, and the next female you started dealing with, a.k.a The Rebound Chic, winds up filling the void. At first, things seem good, as the attention you were giving your ex you now spill over to Ms. Right Now. Unfortunately, the honeymoon stage wears off after a while, and though the sex may be still good, you see there’s really no future with this girl. At some point, you make a decision in your head to cut her off.

2. The Jumpoff – You may have met this one out and about, and had no true plans of a relationship with her. The Jumpoff role as Ms. Right Now is simply for physical pleasure. Be careful though, as she may equate the bootycalls as love.

3. The Online Date – This version of Ms. Right Now is growing more popular these days, as more and more brothas scour the dating sites like BlackPeopleMeet.com to hook up with people. Women outnumber men 8 to 1 on many of those sites, so depending where you live, you can be a kid in a candy store picking and choosing who you want to chat with. Much like The Rebound or The Jumpoff, you may see The Online Date for one reason. The major difference with this one is you usually have to do more work (i.e communication) to get things poppin.

4. The Friend - We talked about how brothas get caught up in the Friend Zone before, but this is the opposite. For those fellas out there that have female friends they are attracted too, timing may have been a reason you two never hooked up. She might have been dealing with someone or vice versa. Either way, you two remained cool, and kept in touch. Now you’re single again, you have more time to chill with your “friend”. The Friend might be just Ms. Right Now because there was a reason she was not deemed Ms. Right by you from the jump. Familiarity does breed content, and it may be much easier to slide into her than someone you have to go out and meet.

I’m certain all of you have had a Ms. Right Now in one of those four forms. Some may have dealt with all of them at some point. It’s important to remember that Ms. Right Now should not get the priority or privileges that Ms. Right would get. You also need to know that women are emotional creatures, and no matter how many times she says she’s cool “just being friends/cuddy buddies”, odds are she’s gonna change her tune, and want a title on the relationship sooner or later.
